post performance

Dance Works Dance Works......
The whole process was surprisingly easy...stressful but easy. I didn't realize how much time and energy it takes to compile just one piece together for a main stage. but 8 pieces..Ihave a new found respect for production teams.

Our first day of being on the stage was very fun! We worked out spacing and figured out how the girls would run on and off stage. The stage's thrust worked perfectly with my piece. We were able to use it to our advantage. We had our lighting cues. They went well except for the strobe lights..the strobes were touchy equiptment that I dont think I'll use again on stage unless its stable.

Our second day of dress rehearsal went really well. We had to keep working on our spacing after rehearsal but finally got it.

The third rehearsal it was mainly for the dancers to work out the little problems they had if any and just dance it the way they'd dance it opening night.

The girls looked AMAZING. They had so much energy. They killed every performance even if the strobe didnt go off in the begining it still looked fantastic. My dancers made this dance what it was.

1st Rehearsal

The girls in my cast are amazing. Each one of them bringing something unique to the floor :) So at the beginning of my rehearsal I had them do a cypher, where they stand in a circle and go in one at a time and freestyle for a bit. I wanted to see each of their own styles and get a custom to what movements come natural to their bodies. It went really well, I think I'm going to do this at every rehearsal. We have a diverse group, from very ballet trained to hip hop and modern! I'm so stoked. We worked on my phrase then experimented with ideas for the beginning. I'm excited for this semester and how this piece turns out!
